In Reading, our focus this term will be making connections, visualising, character analysis and questioning. We will comprehensively study the mentor text, and analyse the similarities and differences between the book and the movie version. In Writing, our first focus will be descriptive non-fiction essays. We will explore descriptive language features including using our senses and literary devices such as similes and metaphors. Persuasive writing, in particular advertisements will be our second focus. We will work on how to effectively use persuasive devices and imagery.
Our Numeracy unit will focus on selecting and applying efficient mental and written strategies to solve problems involving multiplication and division with decimal numbers and developing terminology such as factors, multiples and powers. We will solve patterns that use specific number sequences and generate our own. Another topic we will be looking at is the relationship between area and perimeter and comparing measurements involving both. To finish the term off we will conduct chance experiments, collect data and represent our findings.
Our Inquiry unit 'Bizarre Bazaar' will give students an opportunity to research into the history of inventions and products that have changed our everyday lives. We will investigate what resources were used to create the products, how they were manufactured, promoted to the general public and who could afford to buy them. We are then going to create our own inventions and products and think about how we could market them in our current society.
