LOTE Curriculum 2018

 

PREP: Throughout this year, prep children will be introduced to the culture of Indonesia through videos and photographs. They will look at the location of Indonesia using a world map and practice greeting people according to the time of day.  They will also learn how to use their manner e.g. thank you = terimakasi

 Good morning = selamat pagi, good afternoon = selamat sore, goodnight = selamat tidur.

 

They have also practised counting numbers (1-10) and colours.

Children will explore colour pronunciation, using hands-on materials to support their understandings (play dough, paper, sand, etc).

 

 

 

GRADE 1 & 2: During this year, children will use maps to understand that Indonesia is part of the continent Asia. They will further explore life in Indonesia using videos and visual images, making comparisons between life in Indonesia and their own experiences through Ven diagrams. Children will develop their vocabulary by expressing feelings in Bahasa Indonesia. They will learn about Indonesian art, all about me and things in my classroom.

 

E.g. Happy = senang, sad = sedih, angry = marah.

 

They will be supported to play online games, complete drawings and reflections, and, participate in role-plays.

Students will continue to develop their pronunciation of Indonesian words with a focus on family members. They will engage in a variety of hands-on and interactive games to support their learning. Children will be supported to further develop their understanding of their Indonesian language by using core words to create simple sentences with instructions  E.g  Sit down mum = Silikaan duduk ibu

 

ibu = mum ayah = dad kakek = grandfather nenek = grandmother Boo=teacher

 

They will make a mask for their special person and learn to label body parts.

 

 

GRADE 3&4: This term, children will be focusing weather, places, school signs, ordinal numbers, prepositions, verbs, sentence making, listening to stories and making an Avatar in Indonesian.

They will explore life in Indonesia by watching news reports (Behind the News: kids) and responding to what they see. Children will make comparisons between their own lives and life in Indonesia (ven diagrams comparing the 2). They will engage in an animal investigation, using print and online information to research and report on a native Indonesian animal of their choice.

 

Grade 3/4s will be using digital technology to translate words and sentences into Bahasa Indonesia. They will explore Indonesian street and advertising signs and compare similarities between those and the ones we have in Australia.

Grade 5&6: Learning French

This year children will practise greetings, colours and numbers in French. They will have a virtual tour of Le Louvre and compare it to Museums in Australia.  They will work on www.duolingo.com to improve their language skills.  Students will learn and compare French musicians, top 10 French artists, architects and compare their pieces of work.
